Texas Computer Equipment Recycling Act (H.B. 2714)

Overview of legislation

House Bill 2714 was signed into law and goes into effect on September 1, 2009. The law requires manufacturers to provide Texas household consumers with free and reasonably convenient collection, re-use and recycling opportunities for certain devices.

Legislated Products

The following devices are covered under the Texas Law: • Monitors • Desktop computers • Notebook computers and • Their accompanying keyboard and mouse Manufacturers are required to offer this collection and recycling only for computer equipment purchased primarily for personal or home-business use. By law, you will be responsible for any confidential information left on the computer equipment.

The M&A Technology Computer Equipment Recycling Program

M&A Technology has contracted with Round 2 Technologies and Asset Management and Services, Inc., both Texas Recyclers to establish the M&A Recycling Program. These certified equipment recyclers act as the collection and recycling contractors for the Program. The Program provides consumers with a free and convenient way of recycling their used, unwanted, obsolete or damaged M&A products by dropping them off at the designated recycling centers. Program Coverage

Products covered by the M&A Technology Recycling Program include M&A Technology and Manda brands of desktop computers, monitors, notebooks, accessories (keyboards/mice) associated with those products, and rechargeable (PC Companion) batteries. Other brands will be accepted but a fee may be charged by Waste Management for non-M&A brands.   There is no fee to consumers for the covered M&A-branded products.
